Novel Sensing Challenge

SpaceWERX and Space Systems Command (SSC) are hosting the in-person Novel Sensing Challenge Definition Workshop to tackle one of national security's toughest hurdles: tracking dim, cold, and maneuvering targets from space. Modern threats are increasingly difficult to isolate against background noise using legacy infrared baselines alone. This collaborative session gives attendees a direct hand in shaping the scope and requirements of an upcoming formal solicitation, focusing on sensor approaches that can quickly move toward flight testing and operational deployment.

The workshop brings together startups, small businesses, university researchers, and established industry alongside United States Space Force (USSF) operators and acquisition leaders. Day 1 outlines real-world mission scenarios directly from Space Force personnel. On Day 2, participants collaborate in small working groups to evaluate technical friction points, data fusion across sensors, and commercial technology transition into Department of War (DoW) missions. It is built for problem solvers, not formal sales pitches.

The workshop runs November 4-5, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM PT each day at The BR-DGE in El Segundo, California. Insights will directly feed into a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) portal solicitation early next year. Reserve your seat through the registration page before the October 29, 2026 deadline.
